Left a Mark on Me

Spoiler Alert! Rick Riordan’s fans will surely be happy to hear that The Mark of Athena, the third addition in The Heroes of Olympus, has been released. This series is considered to be “a return to Percy Jackson’s world,” and is perfect for Percy fans that want more of the same kind of action that mixes mythology with modern culture. The series has received positive reviews, much like all of the other books by Rick Riordan.
The Heroes of Olympus is a great series for tweens and teens alike. The series revolves around a prophecy, which states that seven demigods will be needed to defeat a certain villain (not giving anything away!). In the first book, The Lost Hero, we were introduced to Piper and Leo—Greek demigods who become great friends on their quest, and Jason, a Roman demigod who joins them at Camp Half-Blood. They are the first three demigods of the prophecy. Jason has suffered from amnesia, and he cannot remember who he is, where he is from, and how he got to where he is. The plot is complex, yet very interesting. Their astonishing adventures will keep your eyes glued to the book. Without giving away too much, the book ends with a perfect cliffhanger that will make you want to read more.
The second book is called The Son of Neptune. In this book, two new demigods, Hazel and Frank, are introduced and an old one, Percy is brought back (much to the delight of Percy Jackson fans). These three are the next demigods of the prophecy. They attend a Roman demigod camp called Camp Jupiter. Percy also has amnesia, like Jason, but he doesn’t know who he is and doesn’t know why he is in a Roman Camp even if he is a Greek demigod. How did he end up in a Roman camp if he’s a Greek demigod? Percy does not remember the fact that he is Greek, but goes to Roman camp anyway. It’s a real page-turner that’s filled with mystery. VOYA’s starred review says that “Riordan’s seamless weaving of various cultural mythologies into a modern landscape continues to shine in The Son of Neptune. As in previous books, the plot is engrossing, the characters are robust and compelling.” This second book is as absorbing and exciting as ever.
The Mark of Athena, the latest addition to The Heroes of Olympus, is packed with humor, suspense and action—just like any other book by Rick Riordan. The book introduces new villains, new monsters, new characters, and of course, new adventures. Annabeth is brought back from the Percy Jackson series, and alternates in telling the story, along with Piper, Leo, and Percy. Annabeth is the final demigod in the prophecy. At the same time, Camp Half-Blood and Camp Jupiter are preparing for war—against each other! This novel combines old friends with new friends, and completes the “Prophecy of Seven.” Of course, the ending is yet another cliffhanger (you should’ve guessed by now!).
The Mark of Athena is a gripping, mysterious novel with a deep mythological background in a modern setting. It’s recommended to anyone who loves a good book! The novel expands on the story of Percy, adding new characters and a new plot twist. It has a bit of everything, including humor, wit, energy, and romance, and is filled with enjoyment. It’s very fast-paced, and something new and exciting happens on every page. All in all, The Mark of Athena is a must-read for fans of the original series.
