The Choice is Yours (Obama)
by Renjini Antony
Hope- this is what encouraged Americans to vote for President Barack Obama in the 2008 Presidential Election. It’s 2012 and the American people are looking for new encouragement to re-elect President Obama as he faces Republican nominee, Governor Mitt Romney.
As Election Day inches closer and closer, President Obama and Governor Romney aren’t the only ones debating. The American people themselves are debating over who is a better fit person to be the Commander in Chief of the United States. People are asking in this election is: Who is going to change things and get America back to the great country it was before everything fell apart?
For the better part of the past four years, unemployment has stayed at a steady rate. When President Obama took office, 800,000 jobs were being lost per month. Since then, that number has decreased and 5.2 million jobs have been added to the private sector, thus boosting the economy. Not only is he be investing in environmental advances to provide more jobs, but also he would get rid of tax breaks for companies that are outsourcing jobs to other countries and reward companies that are creating jobs for Americans.
President Obama wants to make higher education more affordable to millions of Americans. In the past four years, President Obama has cut taxes for middle class families by an average of $3,600 and in the future, hopes to lower taxes on the middle class even more while asking wealthier people to contribute more in their taxes.
Moving on to the much talked about Affordable Care Act, President Obama is trying to provide health care for all Americans. He wants to make sure that everyone has access to quality healthcare and provide access to preventive tests, such as mammograms, at no cost for the patient so that illnesses can be detected and treated early on. Thanks to President Obama, kids don’t have to worry about being uninsured once they turn 18; now, they can stay under their parents’ insurances until they are 26 and have access to it themselves.
Finally, after years of war in the Middle East, President Obama is in the process of pulling American forces out of there. The Iraq war is over and we are now drawing troops out of Afghanistan and transitioning security responsibilities to the people of Afghanistan, hopefully leading to the end of the war by 2014. By pulling America out of these wars, it will ease our financial burdens, as these were two very expensive wars that America couldn’t even afford. To not re-elect the President means that everything he has done these past four years was for nothing if he can’t finish them with a second term. Why would the American people want to erase four years of work by moving backward into a top-down run government? Forward- this is the direction America will move if Barack Obama is re-elected. President Obama will ensure that America returns to its former greatness, and he is the right choice for the American people.
