The Choice is Yours (Romney)
by Aakash Japi
Today, America stands at a crossroad. This upcoming election will decide the future of our nation: whether we become self-reliant individualists, or welfare dependent followers. President Obama, with his attempts at social and economic reform, creating a burgeoning deficit (17 trillion dollars!), as his mission to “support the middle class,” has turned into a rapid debt increase and economic growth restriction. Obama, for all of high-mindedness, has increased taxes without spurring job creation. He is focusing resources on ineffectual programs instead of our nation’s largest issue: the economy. Presently, 7.8% of Americans are still unemployed under Mr. Obama. Business growth has stagnated, and his coveted “small businesses” has shown very little promise. Is this what we want to repeat for the next four years? No. Right now, America deserves a change in leadership.
Governor Romney has a new vision for America: a vision where individualism and self reliance is rewarded over dependency and failure. Mr. Romney proposes an America where economic growth is fostered, not restricted; where self reliance and individualism are prized, not derided; where Americans are given the freedom of choice. Mr. Romney’s plan for a seven trillion dollar tax cut will allow funds to stimulate the economy rather than the Treasury, while remaining revenue neutral. Mr. Romney will finance this by closing loopholes and removing deductions, and cutting waste from the various Obama-administration programs. These tax cuts will allow business to flourish, and will increase job creation, decrease unemployment, and revive the stagnant American economy. This plan has come under heavy fire; but I’d like to ask, what seems so egregiously wrong with it? Tax cuts will trickle down to all segments of the economy, as jobs will be created and people will be rewarded for the productive use of labor. Americans will fare better from a tax decrease, that will remove barriers from economic activity, and promote growth. than Obama’s spending rise.
Right now, Spain has taken Mr. Obama’s high spending route of economic reform, which has resulted in a rise in cumulative unemployment to an astounding 27%. More than 500,000 people have left the nation, in search of opportunity elsewhere, while emergency response organizations are unsuccessfully attempting to revive Spain’s catastrophic economy. President Obama’s tax plan will cut 700,000 jobs from the economy, further increasing unemployment, and leading our nation further into the depth of recession. It is a time for change. America, and each of us, deserve better than Mr. Obama’s leadership.
Let me ask you all a question: is it fiscally responsible or morally right to increase governmental spending in the middle of a recession? Is it right to increase taxes during the time when America is hurting the most? No, it is not right. Growth or restriction, wealth or despondency, individualism or reliance. The decision is yours, America.
